Tyler’s stories. Our family’s adventures.
Tyler is the main author of Monster Fishing Thailand. His dad, Vinny, takes Tyler and Finlay on fishing trips, and the family’s travels now also include holidays with Sam, Daisy and Tyler. Those shared experiences are the starting point for this website.
Tyler will write about the trips he has been on, the fish he has caught and what he is learning. Other family members contribute their own memories and photographs, with their accounts credited to them. Vinny’s Big Girl carp story with Finlay is one of those contributions.
Our Palm Tree Lagoon album already brings several visits together. Vinny recalls three or four trips to Jurassic Mountain; the family will add the dates, photographs and stories from those visits next. They have also reported visiting Samui Fishing Club.
As Tyler takes on more of the writing, he is also learning how to build and manage the site, with Vinny’s support. Our aim is to turn real family experience and careful research into a useful resource for other people planning to fish in Thailand.
We want to show the whole experience: learning to fish, remarkable catches, time spent together and the perspective of people who are not holding a rod.
Four kinds of information
- Our first-hand experience
- What a named family member saw or did, with the visit date and context.
- The venue’s information
- What the fishery says about its packages, stocks, facilities or rules, linked to the source.
- Independent research
- Species information and other factual material supported by appropriate sources.
- Our opinion
- Personal impressions and recommendations, clearly identified as such.
Photographs and big-fish claims
We preserve originals and make smaller copies for the website. Each family image needs a venue, date where known, photographer credit and a caption that says only what we can support.
Read Vinny’s account of his June 2024 carp catch with Finlay, from the feeling before the bite to the moment the fish came into view. His recollection sits alongside the family photographs, video and sourced catch history.
A growing guide
This edition includes six fisheries and four species profiles. It is not a complete directory, a complete scientific checklist or an independent audit of the venues.
Read our research notes for checks and limitations, and photo credits for the two licensed reference images used while the family album is being organised.
