Bait is a venue-specific choice

Palm Tree Lagoon’s rates page describes rice-bran or “lum” mixtures for carp and Mekong rods, alongside separate predator baits. That is an example of its published package, not a recipe for every Thai lake. Venue bait description.

Ask the guide to demonstrate the correct consistency, amount and presentation. Ask permission before introducing outside bait; do not assume a familiar bait from home will be accepted.

Five questions before copying a rig

  • Which target species and venue is this setup for?
  • Is every component approved under the current rules?
  • How is the bait meant to sit or behave in the water?
  • What should I do when the bite indicator moves?
  • How will the rig and fish be handled at the landing stage?

A diagram without those answers can be misleading. We will add rig illustrations when the relevant method has been checked, not infer specifications from a distant photograph.

A useful learning exercise

With permission, photograph an approved setup laid out safely before fishing. Label each component afterwards, and write one sentence explaining its job. Record the venue, date and guide’s explanation with the image.

Do not publish a claimed breaking strain, hook size or bait recipe from memory if it can be checked against packaging or a guide’s confirmation. Learn the method first; add precise numbers when there is evidence.
